I noticed a werring (apologies for the spelling) noise on my 52 Hdi pic coming from under the bonnet for about 30 seconds after I’ve stopped and locked the car up. Never noticed it on previous Picasso’s .

Maybe the turbo winding down- but 30 secs is a long time for a turbo spinning without oil pressure. Do you blip the throttle at shut down?

No not at all. I fact, I’ve just been to check, starting the car and letting it idle for a couple of minutes. Switched it off, central locked it and the noise was there for a good minute. Then it tailed off.
Everything is fine on the car from what I can see.

Check temperature gauge is remaining at 3 bars 10 mins after engine running at normal temperature, turn off it should slowly drop to zero bar (you will have to turn ignition back on to watch). If it drops quickly to zero bar after engine turned off could indicate coolant thermostat stuck in closed position.

Electric fan coming on after shut down may be a warning of this usually only comes on after arduous driving conditions electric fan or short of coolant.

If coolant thermostat stuck in closed position the engine heat will dissipate into the Coolant hence activating the electric fan thermostat instead of dissipating around the radiator circuit.

Not saying this is what is causing the 'Run On' but something to be aware of.

Was sure the run on was deliberate after shut down to lower the water [engine] temperature if it was above preset level, it soon turns off

sounds like the noise my 2.0 hdi makes on switch off.

noticed it on a lot of cars , comes from a vacuum operated valve or solenoid ,
stops when there is no longer a vacuum in the pipes

could be a slight leak but mines been doing it for years with no error codes or noticeable problems

Completely normal, its all the electrical servos and valves re-setting. The 1.6 HDi seems the worst for these noises of the cars I have driven.
