How long would it be reasonable to expect a battery to last from new??? Varta OE?

OOPS should have been posted under Xsara Picasso.

The one on my 2004 Picasso was as good as new when I sold the car at 10 years old.  Each winter it was parked in my drive as we we went to West Australia for 3 months, Jan, Feb and March. Neighbours used to send pictures of it covered in snow.  It started 1st time on return, every year.

Xsara Picasso battery is as you know located under the front passenger seat. This gives it a lot of protection from temperature changes. Owned a Xsara Picasso for 4 years never had a battery problem.

My Xpic won't be 10 yrs old until March 2020. I had expected the battery to last that long, but admit it has been used on very short journeys which would not help.

I had a 55 plate Xsara Picasso 1.6 Hdi 110 BHP with a 'Tudor' Battery (which is Exide I believe) under front passenger seat it gave up the ghost in June this year (15 Years). The differential gear gave up the ghost 2 weeks later and is now in heaven or hell :). I think it was telling me something. thermostat, ABS sensor also packed in this year.
