Is it essential to replace the plastic surrounds at top and bottom of new front spring ???

What is the result of not fitting them??

I believe that the cups were added to later production cars cars to stop broken springs penetrating tyres, which had been happening to early cars..

I have tried to search the site for the posts that were made at the time, but it is not working.

Don't know whether it applies to all models, but remember the location of the 3 top bolts as one is a different length to the other two.  If you get it wrong you'll get a rattle from the suspension.
