Hi,

I need to get a couple of new tyres for my C3 Picasso and went to look for the locking key nut and its not in the toolkit thing that lives in the spare wheel (or for that matter elsewhere in the car - the previous owner / garage must has lost it). Everything else in in there but no key for the locking nut! I purchased the car a couple of years ago and should have checked it soon after purchase but didn't...

Anybody else been in this pickle? and if so how did you resolve it?

Possible any tyre outlet will have some form of master key, then will want to sell you a new set of locking nuts & key

I did contact a respected tyre fitter near me who said - best get the wheel nuts sorted and then we can do the tyres - which is a bit of a cop out as my dealer is a 50 mile round trip...

Surely they come across this quite often ! however came across this;

"Locking nuts are sold with a code, so owners can order a new key from the maker. If you don’t have the code, garages have tools able to remove most nuts. Breakdown organisations such as the AA and RAC can also usually help."

It won't help Richard, but the key-nut has the code endraved on it.

I suggest those that have one should make a note of the code and keep it somewhere safe in case of loss. Tyre companies are very good at not replacing the key where they found it as well as over tightening the nuts, if you have anyone work on your wheels I suggest loosen and re-torque the nuts correctly as soon as you can.

Have you checked the tray under the passenger seat and also in spare wheel well in boot?

Try the ashtray, rear foot lockers, under the spare wheel, in the wheel brace socket.

Last time I had mine done, it was left in the driver door pocket.  Another time it was in the glovebox lid.....

This has been resolved - the dealer who services the car offered to order a replacement free of charge as as an offer of goodwill - this is great as I was quote best part of £100 for a replacement. Pretty good - received in the post last week..
