My wife's 59 plate C3 Picasso 1.6hdi has displayed the Anti Pollution Faulty warning message, the engine management light also came on & it drove normally, previous displays (2 over 3 years motorway driving only) of this message have resulted in the car stalling only to drive normally after being restarted. The main dealer said that my car "according to the system" doesn't have a DPF fitted & said that it would be £50 min for the 1st 1/2hr to find out what is making the car display this message.

So the question is has anyone else experienced this situation & if so what was the outcome/cause.

How far a week does your wife drive her car. If it has a DPF or not it could benefit from an Italian tune or just a good high speed run so that the temperature of the system reached that required to fire up the de-pollution system. I had a 58 reg C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi that you could see the system doing a burn if you had the instantaneous mpg display on. It would dip from 50 to about 19 mpg as it went into action. If however you stop the engine during this cycle then it is incomplete and problems can arise.
Italian tune up, drive at 65 to 70 in 4 gear for a 3 or 4 miles. My friend has. Skoda Octavia diesel and does this once a week.

Thank you for the replies, my wife uses the car for work on a 6 days on 3 off rota, mileage is 30 miles per day round trip with a once a week 6 mile shopping trip & it never falls below 47mpg & it always gets the tank refilled when it drops to 1/4 remaining. So the mileage shouldn't really be an issue should it.

Your garage should be able to tell you in a few moments, regardless of what the system says, whether your Hdi has a DPF or not.

The fact that they want 100 squid+ per hour might explain their reason for not bothering to look.

The point I was making is diesels really need to have a good high speed run the distance if 15 miles is quite short and is this in traffic with traffic light and crawling all if which along with cool temperatures etc aren't ideal for diesels. Try the Italian tune up
