hi to all it sounds stupid but my xsara picasso 2003 1.6 petrol is having starting problems

car wont start so i suspected maf so unplugs 4pin connector and engine starts.... but the 4 pin plug was actually for the idle control valve

so icv connected car wont start

icv unplugged car starts.... but pulling accelerator cable revs engine fine but sometimes pulling cable gives no response/stalls ? any ideas

also does anyone know where the maf is so i can remove and clean it anyway

thanks

The MAF is inline in the air intake tube.  Plug on top, with an airflow arrow on it I think (mine does anyway :)  ).

Might be the throttle body needing cleaning too, or the Throttle Position sensor ?    Any engine management lights ?

I don't think the  petrols  have a MAF , there is only a MAP sensor located in the throttle body.

( manifold absolute pressure )

easy to remove , just 1 screw . Replaced one recently to cure an idle problem

can be cleaned with maf or electrical cleaner .

thanks for replies errr cant see anything on air intake at all and no engine light....map/throttle body sound interesting but im not a mechanic just too skint for one so...any idea where map/throttle will be or what it looks like ive removed air intake and theres a disc connected to the accelerator cable seems fine visually also removed the idle motor top rear 4 pin plug and the black dome on motor is very stiff in/out can i test function of it while removed ?

got a elm interface read codes was cheap and removed guessing so....

new stepper motor from scrappy new crankshaft sensor from eurocarparts reset bsi/ecu drive for 5 or 6 miles and all fixed

but throttle position sensor faulty so will replace

so just for reference on my 1.6 petrol 2003 xsara picasso

*p0108* no maf only map top left looking at engine across from air intake follow accelerator cable backwards 8mm bolt 1 clip plug

*p0336* crankshaft sensor on gearbox casing star drive bolt underneath two black hoses remove air box for better access

part number 419545111 box says 2.0 hdi ?? but works ?? some are 450ohm and some 400ohm mine was 400ohm

*p0505* idle stepper motor/valve top at back behind accelerator cam small star 1 top 1underneath and 1 clip plug part number a96159

*p0123* throttle position sensor just below idle motor to the right at rear  the  part number 9642473280

*p01327 phase synchronization fault- was coil pack but i didnt change mine i assumed the faulty throttle sensor was causing this code

hope this helps someone

forgot to say faulty throttle/pedal position sensor will rev and appear to operate  normally as fault only shows when under load (in gear)

light press = slow acceleration

med or full press=no reaction from tps so no rev

gotta accelerate by finding that sweet spot on potetiometer ring inside sensor thats still working very light press on mine

eurocarparts want one sixty

general traffic dont sell them

fleabay got unbranded ones for twenty

but im old fashioned and will go scrappy to get used oem part for a tenner as they have citroen and peugot logo on
