Someone pranged my car, i was not in the vehecle at the time and they didn't leave any details, but left me with a very large dent and scrape on my front wing.

I phoned up the insurance and they put me n contact with an "approved garage"(30miles away)

I have go to pay £175 excess!

Never had this done before so im a bit confused!

A) do I have to go with the garage they say?
B) is it worth shopping around what is the liklihood of getting it done for less than £175? (I know its hard to comment without seeing the damage)

Not sure what section to put this in.......Thanks in advance

No you don't have to use their approved garage although they will try their hardest to make you use them................Posted Image.

It's a bit of a balancing act really, i.e: your excess v's the cost of repair v's non-claims life (higher premium next year?), because your insurer wont be able to trace the other driver it's likely it'll be recorded as a 'fault claim' against you. I'd personally ask some independent body-shops how much they'll do it for, cash in hand - no bill.Posted Image

You're gonna pay £175 whatever way you go so see if a garage might do it for £200 / £250 and then decide, without seeing the damage I'd say keep any claim life's for a bigger claim.Posted Image

Try and post a picture of the damage?Posted Image

just wondered if it might be worth contacting dent magician and chips away for a quote?

or if its a dent that you yourself could push out?

that way it will not affect your insurance??

I have never ever seen a DIY repair that has been carried out correctly, most if not all the damage is made worse or never looks right. In the end it ends up being done twice so you end up paying twice........... Posted Image
