Well.... glad I found this topic! On my 54 1.6HDi Excl my aircon doesnt work! When in AUTO or A/C modes the air doesnt get cooler, nor does the cooling fan at the front of the car kick in! Its basically a dead system at the moment! Can anyone advise where to start? lol

Im a total novice when it gets to cars, managed to change the foglamps without jacking the car up but dont really like the sound of removing the front bumper! Can I access these resistors and relays from the top or bottom of the car without removing too much? Im sure I will be able to remove the bonnet slam panel as I remember reading there is something under there that needs to be accessed. Im just not sure where to start or what to check first. Can someone give some guidance please? :)

Many thanks in advance,

Ross, you can check/change the three relays without removing the front bumper. You just unscrew the two cross headed screws from the front panel. They are a bit of a pig though.

You reallty have to remove the front bumper to get at the resister coils though. It's not as big a job as it sounds.

Hi All
I took my 00 X Reg Pic 1.6 Petrol (with air con) to Kwik Fit on Saturday to get a new exhaust and while i was there i thought i would get my air con re-gassed as it hasnt worked for over a year and wanted to see if it would bring it back to life.

Unfortunately it didnt, but now i have the dreaded ENGINE TEMPERATURE warning and showing ALL bars on the temp side, anyone know how they might have caused this, fan seems to run REALLY loud at the moment. Wasnt overheating before i went in there (sure its not overheatting at the moment).

Secondly, they said the reason for the air con not working is probably down to the compressor. Anyone know what i need to do to get it working again (other than taking it to citroen?).

Thanks

Lee

Ok when I had my front section of the the exhaust changed,it was all done from underneath so I can,t think of anything they may have disturbed .First are you sure it is actualy overheating? Faulty temp sender will trigger the overheat warning and engage fan at high speed which will grab your attention. You need to find out if the warning is genuine
Re the aircon from what I understand the likes of quick fit do not diagnose just the regas service (basicaly the machine can be left to do its stuff unattended)

I would recomend you unplug the 12v power connecter to the compressor & supply 12v direct to see if the clutch actually works. If it works run the engine to see if the compressor works and produces cold air.Picasso compressors do not have a bad reputation unlike the mercedes variety. If this proves it works then your fault is elswhere

....or possibly disconnected or shorted wires to the sender, disturbed while they were trying to re-gas?

The connections for the aircon gas are on the drivers side bulkhead, the temp sender is on the passenger side of engine. So should not be where they were working.

I was wondering if you could help with a similar problem..

I have a 1.6 2003 Picasso, and recently the fan has decided to go on a funny turn. The car will run fine, though once it warms up the fan will switch on for about a second then switch back off! I have checked and swapped around the relays on the drivers side of the radiator and also changed the coolant temp sensor! I have the high temp sensor (the other single wire, black plug on the side of the block) being delivered tuesday or something so will also be changing that

I have phone Citroen and spoken to them and they have said to check the relay under the battery? (which is under the passenger seat) so cant see it being so far away! Could this be right?
Although I have checked all the fuses in the engine bay and also checked for any other relays that are meant to be under there (according to a friends component locations book) which I failed to find!

If the coolant temp sensor is disconnected the fan will come on and run continuously!
I have also run the car (with temp sensor plugged in) and if I watch the dash, the temperature gauge shoots to the top, STOP ENGINE TEMPERATURE is displayed, the fan comes on for 1 second and the temperature gauge falls back to the middle..

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

i had a probelm with my fan not starting, played about and changed both of the sensors on on the engine,
still could not sort out probelm (think i have a thread on here about it)
can't remember if i worked out which was power cable to fan and cut the earth, or i run a new power cable from fuse box to fan
then i run a new earth from fan to the engine sensor at rear of engine block (disconnecting the origanal cable on sensor)
did have the fan running a lot longer, and fan needed replacing after couple of years, (just got simaler fan from scrap yard)
but at least i knew it worked
i thought about running cables to a switch inside car, but as mrs car i thought just make it easy for her.

I have been reading this forum for a while and have sorted many problems out on 2005 1.6 Desire.
But have come unstuck this time when my cooling fan stopped working (no air con)
Just a few questions hope you can help

Is there a fuse for the fan (looked in manual cant see one)
Checked the relays next to rad (only got 2)seemed ok
anything else anyone can suggest would welcome (fan spins by hand easily)

not too tech please
Ian
