I've been down that road, Jaybee. What annoys me is that the TV ads all 'seem' to [u] guarantee the lowest quote. But do they? Do they heck. I've shopped around for years and always found something cheaper.
SAGA was cheapest couple years ago but M&S were much cheaper this year which also included RAC breakdown and legal protection cover).

For our second car (Micra) Tesco came up trumps and actually lowered my renewal premiums considerably; couldn't find anything cheaper - even Confused.com. I double checked the cover details, just incase they'd forgotten that my student daughter was a named driver. But all was correct. I nearly snatched Tescos' hands off!

A relative moved his insurance to SAGA two years ago; this year he moved again to Sainsburys, because their quote was

"Life? Don't talk to me about life....."

The reason you get cheaper quotes online is to do with administration costs. A computer cost very little compared to employing a person.
In relation to your Father, he probably would have lost all his no claims discount (65% -75% off the premium).
In respect to who is the greater risk, normally it is the youngest, but the number and monetary amount of claims has a massive impact on. Also postcode, gender and occupation are other major factors.

Nowt wrong with Saga, it's just that once you qualify for Saga you seem to be officially classed as old :(

I would imagine Liverpool would be seen as a high risk for Insurers like most if not all City's really (London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc), I wonder how many people register their vehicles at friends / relatives in rural places to reduce the premium? I bet there's many that do.............

Have been with Saga for quite a few years now. When I receive their renewal quotes either for my wife or myself I go on line to Confused .com and ring Saga with the cheapest quote. To be fair to them I always ensure that we are comparing like for like. They have never refused to match the lowest quote and always knock an extra

That was with protected NCB and legal cover. Myself and wife driving and they also cover any driver to get you home in the event that you have a senior event which prevents you driving. Can I be dealing with the same Company that others describe?
