If you are in doubt as to their usefulness, I can confirm that I went out on Sunday morning in Kent to Mayfield, the snow was deep, the roads were treacherous, and I passed at least 10 abandoned vehicles on the way to my destination. The country lanes were very deep with the front sumpguard acting like a skidplate.

Note that I said 'passed' everyone. I was unstoppable! Only got them on the front, but the car felt as stable & as composed, with as much grip, as I had on my Skoda Octavia Scout four wheel drive last year.

A real revelation, and well worth it.

Mine are budget ones at about £80 each and i am chuffed to bits with them. Difficult not to feel smug just cruising by everyone!

Hesitant To Start....glow Plugs?

So our 52 plate 2.0Hdi pic has been a little hesitant to start over this cold snap. The symptoms are when we try to start it may take 6-7 cranks before starting, sometimes it may take two attempts to start. Once started however it is then fine. I could literally start it, turn it off and then it would start on the button!

Does this point to glow plugs or could it be something more sinister such as fuel pump/injectors. As I say it only happens on the first start of the day!!!

Pollen Filter?

I've tried searching on this site and looked through my handbook, but still have a query.

Having driven back from Cornwall to The Midlands on Friday, come Sunday morning the smell in the car was terrible. I've seen it described as wet socks, wet dog and BO on here, but I would it put nearer tom-cat urine myself (don't ask)!

Anyway, it would appear that the air con is at the route of this as I've searched high and low for other offending remnants of our holiday.

So it would appear that I need to remove the air pollen filter and spray with some anti-bacterial spray. However, I've followed the instructons on the FAQ's which asks me to remove the black cover (and yes despite those warnings a wing nut did disappear into a black hole!) but it appears to be prevented by the windscreen wipers stalks? Even if I could get if off, I can't see any obvious filter beneath it, having lifted up half of it? I then got to thinking that perhaps my petrol 1.6 model (55) doesn't have a filter but then another post said that air con equals pollen filter, so surely it must have one?

Thanks.

Annoying Rattle From Engine Bay

I'm experiencing an annoying rattle from the engine bay of my Picasso 1.6 Petrol (X Reg) whilst driving.

It seems to be coming from the right hand side of the engine bay (not suspension related) as I'm driving and is related to the accelerator pedal, the chain of events being: I drive along, normally 30mph or above and this rattle starts, I lift off the accelerator, rattle stops. It's quite loud - I can hear it clearly over the engine and radio - so sounds like it could be trouble..

Does anyone have any similar issues and or advice to help diagnose and remedy this please?

Hi All.
Travelling along the motorway at a nice steady 70MPH, I had to pull down a gear due to congestion (5th/4th).
Lo and behold, the full gear stick went limp, with a failure to engage gear
Luckily, after 33 years driving experience, I managed to keep control, albeit through gritted teeth, and freewheel onto the hard shoulder - scary stuff
I've read in the forums about jumping out of gear (inability to put into gear) whilst moving down from 5th - This was'nt the case.
The gear linkage, under the bonnet (not under the gearstick) popped off the balljoint - I purchased a replacement for £7.50, although it does'nt look the same as the
original, which should work fine when fitted.
For the life of me I can't understand this design, simply due to the fact at how dangerous it is when it pops off! ie. outer lane of a busy motorway, country roads etc. When it goes, there is simply nothing that can be done!
Has this happened to anyone else?
It must have!
The link arm pops off very easy, and due to the constant movement, the nylon wears readily.
The Picasso xsara is a 2002 model SX. with 71k on the clock.
I would recommend that everyone with this type of link get it checked out as a matter of priority.
Sorry for sounding dramatic, but this arm is a shoddy design and will fail.

I'll upload a pic.........

Xsara Picasso Starts & Dies :-(

Hi, sorry to hi-jack this thread but was wondering if you have managed to find the fault yet?

I am asking because we have a very similar problem with our 52 plate 2.0hdi.

2 weeks after we bought her the head gasket went (ouch). luckily my partner is a mechanic and has done the work himself. However, in 3 weeks, he, nor anyone else mechanically minded has been able to find the answer to the problem we have been left with.

It WONT start! Correction, it has started twice for 10 seconds max then died.

Head gasket/timing belt/water pump were all changed for new. Fuel filter has also been replaced. Fuel pump works. Fuel pump relay has been replaced. No air/fuel leaks that we can find. No fault codes when put on diognostics.

She will turn over and like I say, has started twice since the work was carried out but died very shortly after.

Can anyone please give any suggestions on what the problem might be.

Many thanks with tea/coffee and biscuits supplied (even if only in thought).

I do. I think it is a very arrogant point of view to assume that we are the only planet to be inhabited.
Ready for passing on my Xsara p]Picasso to my son I went for a test run in the replacement C3 Picasso, to sum it up in one word, Yuk !!!first Citroen have opted for the simplest right hand conversion, one drawback is the fusebox takes up the majority of the glovebox leaving a joke, already there have been issues regarding the pedal controls operable from the passenger side. I searched for places to put stuff, there was nothing, the distance between shoulders of people is almost back to being inside the ancient baby Austin, even the spare wheel is temporary if you have a blow-out. Apart from cheaper road tax I fail to see why this ugly beast is an improvement on the old model. I quickly changed my mind about purchasing, instead I have bout a younger Xsara Picasso, this time with the 1.6 hdi engine [110] and Exclusive trim, this will last out my motoring days [crossed fingers] and is a proper mpv in my eyes, I could tell Citroen where to put the new C3 Picasso, it should fit, its small enough.

2003 Pic Ball Joint Replacement

My brother needs to replace the lower ball joint on the front suspension. Unfortunately, the ball joint cannot be replaced on its own as this model year has it combined with the wishbone.

The Haynes manual is the pits and only gives info on the separate ball joint replacement, not the combined unit.

Can anyone give me any tips that we might find useful? I.E. tools required etc...

Hi all,

Well after 4 years of good motoring with my 2001 Y reg picasso we have now upgraded to a 2005 desire 2 so now my old pic is surplus to requirements.

The car is silver 2001 Y reg with 95k on the clock, all old mot's and lots of invoices but no service book. its the 1.8i petrol. inside its adverage condition with the only problem being the drivers seat side where you get in the stiching coming undone. its not mint but not rubbish.
the outside has a couple of dings and scratchs but nothing that would cause an alarm. its just a little rough.
5 months tax and mot till May 2010.

What kind of price should I pictch out at. Going to give it a good valet this week and take some pics and then put it on Autotrader. Any other good places to advertise it?

thanks
Paul

Coolant Temperature Sensor

Hi All
Coolant Sensor time again. Been on here before with an annoying cooling fan issue which is that it has fallen off. Trying to get the screw out of the motor currently so i am getting there.

I need to get this coolant sensor problem sorted. Basically i have the 'STOP ENGINE TEMPERATURE' alert on my 1.6SX Pic with Air Con Year 2000 X Reg. Its really annoying and i thought i had solved it by changing a part (a blue sensor) and disconnecting the battery and reconnecting etc. But this now doesnt seem to want to work either.

The problem i have is 'What is causing the STOP ENGINE TEMPERATURE alert?' Obviously it is a sensor of some kind but i am having difficulty identifying which one it is.

If you look at the picture DSC00032, this is an overhead view of the engine. There are 3 bits i need identifying here.

1) Big Blue Sensor on the left hand side (I have replaced this one already but not too sure that this is the right thing)
2) Green Thing (no idea what this is or whether it is relevant)
3) Other Blue Type Thing. You can just about see this thing between the engine and the green thing. I think that this is the bit that needs replacing rather that the bigger blue bit on the left. Is this the bit i need to replace? If so, how the hell does it come out? the other picture shows it in more detail but i have no idea how to remove it as it seems in a nasty place to get to.

Anyone have any bright ideas on this one?

Lee

Half the reason we went for the picaso is that the sale man from adv**tage motor group said we would have no probs towing a caravan and i did have a BX once which was comfy so went for the same brand again, only to check on the parkers website that we can only towe upto 900KG bracked now what has realy pissed me off big time , does any one know if this is correct and if so what 4 berth caravans fall into this weight group as there is myself the good lady and our two daughters, cheers for any help folks

Hi, I have been having trouble starting my Picasso during this cold spell we're having and would like to give the battery a charge.
Now I would like to do this using the charging point under the bonnet, I know where it is but there seems to be two points, one with a plus sign and the other next to it which is a plus sign in a box. please can someone tell me which one I should be using to charge the battery as I don't want to guess and possibly do something to my car.
thanks

Who To Claim Against And Why Does This Happen ..rant

Hi all has anyone ever had the misfortune to be involved in an accident with a cyclist and suffered being sued for personal injury by the cyclist? l had a cyclist jump off the path opposite and come out between oncoming cars to avoid hitting them, and hitting my treasured Pic causing substantial damage to bonnet , front wing, drivers door, and rear door scratching.
May l say that l was very concerned about the young lad, and unfortunately he broke his foot in three places apparently. l phoned his parents the following day and he was comfortable and his bike wasnt that badly damaged and parent said thank you for phoning....
Then l get a letter 6 weeks later that they were pursuing a claim for injuries and loss. l can only assume they meant loss of earnings due to looking after their boy. So okay l refer their so called claim to my insurers and legal department take all the details and take up the case to defend.
Specialist legal claim people were put on the case, and last time l was in contact with them they were awaiting to hear back from the legal company making the claim....no medical report has been forwarded as they had said they were seeking and no contact has been made by them. Damage to my vehicle over 500 hundred quid l cannot afford the 350 excess so car remains damaged ...Heres the crunch even though nothing has been paid out by them and l have protected no claims l have just had my renewal fee come through another 145 pounds what l paid last year...anybody else had similar experience?????? Sorry for the rant but l feel slightly better

As it seems dead quiet on the forum at the moment, I thought that I’d start a little game.

I’ve (hopefully) posted a picture below. This is a famous picture that most of you will recognise and may have visited.

Whoever guesses the correct answer (name and location) first, gets to post the next picture for members to guess. The picture should have some relevance to you (where you live; have lived; fairly famous holiday shot etc.), and should not be impossible to guess – e.g. no pictures of your back garden – unless you have a famous back garden.

This particular place is about 30 miles from where I was born and bred. As a youth, I would often go here when cycling from home.

Unless you’re dead quick – I’ll let you have the answer tomorrow – assuming that there are some correct guesses.

G.

Just Changed Front Brake Discs And Pads

Thought i might share my experience with you, might be usful to someone ?

As above i have just changed discs and pads on my 3 year old Exclusive.

Got parts cheap from someone who works at a parts distribution centre, discs were 12.50 each+vat, pads 12.50 a set + vat. Didn't need to tell him Orga or anything just told him had Bosch calipers, discs and pads fit first time.

As others mention to change pads just a 13mm spanner is required, but to change discs a T55 star bit is required (£7.95 from local shop) nearly as much as the parts !, man and are the two bolts tight !! On getting them undone seems they are thread locked hence tightness. Once all undone there are no other problems it's a dead easy job. Reckon on about 1 hour per side including jacking up. Don't forget to threadlock the bolts back in.

So thats the air filter done (£4.95), cabin filter done (£5.00), all brakes done, including checking the rears, wheels off, drums off. Just fuel filter(£5.25) and oil (£??)and filter(£2.50) to change. Not bad really thats a full service including parts for about £83 quid

Ps.
No Power Maybe Turbo Or Ecu Fault

Hi there i have a 2006 citroen picasso hdi 1.6 110hp exclusive.
The turbo died a few weeks back which i had replaced and all the system flushed and oil feed and return pipes renewed.
Everything else on the turbo system was checked and found ok.
I have just got the car back and find i have hardly any power as if the turbo is not kicking in.
I took it for drive today and it limped around generally getting upto 40 mph and then all of a sudden the turbo kicked in for about 3 miles or so then died again.
I also have an engine management warning on the dash which states esp fault.

Can anyone suggest any solutions or idea's please as i would be most grateful.
